A 6ft tall staff with a wickedly sharp curved blade at the end. When you look at it closely, you notice that the blade has a shimmering blue aura around it. As you swing it, you're sure you can see it slicing the air in two.

Sometimes, during combat:

Miss:

  • YOU MIGHT BE A KING OR A LITTLE STREET SWEEPER, BUT YOU'RE NOT MUCH OF A FIGHTER ARE YOU? YOU MISS.
  • YOU SWING YOUR SCYTHE WILDLY, REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF VEGETATION IN THE NEARBY AREA, BUT NOT ACHIEVING MUCH ELSE.
  • YOU ATTEMPT TO REAP YOUR OPPONENT BUT HE EXPLAINS TO YOU THAT HE HAS GUESTS OVER FOR DINNER, AND APOLOGIES FOR HIS CURRENT LACK OF BEER. ALL THIS CONFUSES YOU AND PREVENTS YOU ATTACKING.

Notes

References

  • The attack messages is similar to the way Death from Terry Pratchet's Discworld speaks, and may be an allusion to the character.
  • The "You might be a king..." attack message may be a reference to a line from many popular culture references, including Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey "You might be a king or a little street sweeper, but sooner or later you dance with the reaper."
  • The miss message about reducing the vegetation refers to the original and intended use of a scythe before it became popularly associated with death: to reap fields of vegetation (primarily tall vegetation like wheat or corn) for harvesting.
  • The miss message about having guests over for dinner is in reference to a skit from "Monty Pythons The Meaning of Life", where death comes to take a number of people at a party and the host tries to treat him like a party guest.
