*"Lorem ipsum" is the dummy text placed to check formatting in typesetting and webpages. The Lorem Ipsum has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, so as not to distract from layout checks. Since it's dummy text, it's incredibly inappropriate for use as a University Motto. At the same time, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" translates to "But I must explain to you" - making it incredibly appropriate as a Motto, as that's what Universities strive for, to explain or teach things to their students.
