Stats

Located on the left hand side of the screen are your character’s main stats: Brawn, Brains and Bravado. These stats determine your character's ability to survive in Paradox. The blue number you see is what is known as your ‘buffed’ stat value. The white number, in parentheses, is your ‘base’ stat value. The buffed value, is what is used to calculate various things, like HP, TP, damage dealt, and damage received. The buffed value is calculated by taking your base value and applying all your stat modifiers to it.

Brawn is used to calculate your HP and increases the damage you deal with Melee Weapons.

Brains is used to calculate your TP and increases the damage you deal with gadgets.

Bravado reduces the damage you take and increases the damage you deal with Ranged Weapons.

Your base stats can be increased by acquiring a certain amount of subpoints. The required amount increases with your level of that stat, so as it gets higher, it is harder to increase. You can gain subpoints from adventures, eating food or drinking drinks. As your base stat levels get higher, your character’s overall level increases too. This overall level has no direct effect on your character’s power, but some quests require you to attain a certain level before starting them.

Stats are vital to your success in Paradox, because without them, everything is difficult. Without Brawn, your HP is low and you will be beaten snotless countless times. Without Brains, you won’t have a lot of TP, so certain devices are hard to use, or even impossible to use more than a few times in a day. Without a lot of Bravado, you take significantly more damage. But, even if you have low stats, some equipment can boost your base stats, and some effects can augment that boost.
