Chat Guide

The following commands are available for use in chat. To use, simply type the command and hit send.

  • Note: There are multiple chat channels in Paradox. Some require special permissions, while some are open to all. If you are in multiple channels, you can prefix some commands with the channel name (eg. "/CHANNELNAME hello") to send your command to that channel.

Channel Commands

/channels|/chans
Usage: /channels
  • Shows all available chat channels.
/channel|/c
Usage: /channel <CHANNELNAME>
  • If used without a channel name, will tell you what channels you're currently in.
  • If used with a channel name, functions as a synonym for the /join command (see below).
/join|/j
Usage: /join CHANNELNAME
  • Join the specified channel (exits the current channel)
/listen|/l
Usage: /listen CHANNELNAME
  • Adds the specified channel to the list of channels you are "listening" to.
/switch|/s
Usage: /switch CHANNELNAME
  • Joins the specified channel and moves your current default channel to the list of channels you are "listening" to.
/who|/w
Usage: /who <CHANNELNAME>
  • If used without a channel name, will list all users in the current default channel (sort-of).
  • If used with a channel name, will list all users in the specified chat channel.

Message Commands

/me|/em|/emote|/action
Usage: /me ACTION
  • Sends an italicized emote/action to the chat.
Example: /me does something in the third person
Result: Username does something in the third person
/msg|/pm|/whisper|/tell
Usage: /msg PLAYERNAME MESSAGE
  • Sends a private message to the specified user. (All private messages are displayed in blue text).
Example: /msg Recipient Here is a private message for you.
Result: Private to Recipient: Here is a private message for you.
Recipient sees: Sender (private): Here is a private message for you.
/reply|/r
Usage: /reply MESSAGE
  • Sends a private message to the last person who sent you a private message.
Example: /reply Here is my response.
Result: Private to Recipient: Here is my response.
Recipient sees: Sender (private): Here is my response.
/conv|/v
Usage: /conv MESSAGE
  • Sends a private message to the last person you sent a private message to.
Example: /conv Here is another private message.
Result: Private to Recipient: Here is another private message.
Recipient sees: Sender (private): Here is another private message.

Player Commands

/whois
Usage: /whois PLAYERNAME
  • Displays basic information about the specified user.
Example: /whois Somebody
Result: Somebody (#123) - Level 3. Player is online and in chat.
/contact|/friend
Usage: /contact PLAYERNAME
  • Add the specified player to your [Contact List]
Example: /contact Gobberwart
Result: Player Gobberwart successfully added to your Contact List.
/ignore|/block
Usage: /ignore PLAYERNAME
  • Add the specified player to your [Ignore List]
Example: /ignore Gobberwart
Result: Player Gobberwart successfully added to your Ignore List.

Control Commands

/clear|/cls
Usage: /clear
  • Clears the chat pane.
/restart
Usage: /restart
  • Restarts the chat system (useful if chat is being flaky)
/exit
Usage: /exit
  • Logs out of chat and closes the chat pane/window.
/mark
Usage: /mark
  • Display a line and timestamp in chat, effectively "marking" your place in chat, so you can find it again if you leave your computer for a few minutes.

Usage: /updates
  • Displays the last 3 game system update messages in the chat pane.

/rfx
Usage: /rfx
  • Gives information about the currently playing song on the game's radio station, Radio Free Xangaka
  • Identifies the current DJ and show name
  • Provides a link to the radio station's home page where there are choices for streaming the audio to your favorite media player.
Example: /rfx
Result: *RFX Now Playing: Tool - Sober (Radio Free Xangaka - Yarlith | Organizaed Chaos). Tune in at http://www.planetrfx.com.
/roll
Usage: /roll xdy [public]
  • Perform a a dice roll, where x is the number of dice and y is the number of sides each die has.
  • If public is specified, display results to everyone in chat, otherwise send results privately.
  • Values for x and y must be between 1 and 999.
Example: /roll 2d8 public
Result: Result of rolling 2d8 for PLAYERNAME is 4
